Temple of Release at The Borderland

/ Composting toilets for 2 500 visitors

Based on The Loop LAGI project, we made a prototype of our system for composting toilets at The Borderland festival 2022 with almost 2500 people using our separating toilets.

The toilets were built as small temples and were called “Temples of Release”. 4,2 meter high with light from above filtering down from the skylight.

You enter the temple and as the building stretches to the sky you sit down to release yourself. A meditation that connects your body from heaven and roots you in the earth.

At night they glow in the dark making them visible from afar, easy to find and a shining light sculpture. A flat-packed design, so they can be stored until next years festival.

“Cult of Release” was the volunteers that was serving the toilets. The pee & poo was later used as fertilizer by farmers on the land.
